Milk

8 07 2009

This week’s show:

We being by talking about the Iranian elections and the riots, we also talk about Mark Sanford and his record on marriage equality, the worst day care ever, President Obama swatting a fly, the EU and the elected Pirate party candidate, eco-friendly products that aren’t so eco-friendly and Sam’s club’s pharmacy push.

We review Milk. Tom thinks it isn’t a great plot but all the other elements are seemless, he gives it a 3.2, Cecil likes it much more giving it a 3.9.

We go over the e-mail and votes. We decide on the next two movies:

Next time Iron Man.

The time after, Let the Right One In.

Good review of “Milk.” I thought it was a good movie too but too much like “Ray”–both movies were 35-45 minutes too long, and Penn and Foxx won Oscars for roles for biopic movies that ultimately really fail on the re-watchability test. I agree w/ Tom: you’re kind of tricked at the outset that you are going to learn more about Harvey the Person but instead you are given a lot about Harvey the Idea. Either way, its release was kinda perfectly timed as it came out shortly after we elected a President who is more of an Idea than a Person as well (but it will forever baffle me as to why this movie wasn’t released before the Prop 8 votes…).

Also, and I don’t know if you guys had the same reaction as I did when the footage of Anita Bryant started in the movie, but remember the line in “Airplane!” when Leslie Nielsen is trying to get a handle on who all is sick on-board the plane and he tells the flight attendant “I haven’t seen anything like this since the Anita Bryant concert”? All these years, I had no idea who she was and then I see her in this movie and the punchline finally registers. Like 20 years after I first saw it… Anyway, I’m a dork.
